But change gon' come (in the industry) come Love the Future, D.A. and Max's forthcoming-and well overdue-album. I saw the dudes of CF perform back in October and they put on a dope set, although i was one of the few to not wear a "What the f*ck are the white dudes doing on the stage?" expression on my face come the aftermath of their performance. Its a great first vid, and due to their Star Trak affiliation look for some really good visual interpretations to come (which I'm guessing will soon be done by that Hype Williams guy).
Here's She Loves Everybody remixed by the Neptunes. I guess we gotta make Chester French a little more "club accessible." Whatever, it's dope. Get it here.
The Invincible Sounds of Summer Tour wrapped up in the 305 on friday and the tri-set of performers surely didn't show signs of fatigue after a long summer-almost as long as the delay of Com's album. Like many of the fortunate ones who attended, I was hyped for the event-maybe the several free monsters i consumed took toll-and the stakes were set high for the night after seeing evidence of the magic derived from the boys over at BBC/Ice Cream.. The night couldn't have started out any better for me. Prior to the opening of the Filmore, I had the chance to meet up with my man $port over at Waymorefresher(I am telling you, man is like the reincarnated Dilla; I'm imploring you to check out his work) $ even handed me a disc of some of his stuff and i have been bumping to it ever since. It was a really good look. Dude has really inspired all of us here at the Boogie. Now about the show... it was as dope as advertised. D.A. and Max from Chester French did their thing opening up with a limited set, and they had me up for "She Loves Everybody" and other were in awe that I knew their stuff, which showed their disloyalty to the StarTrak Fam. The reason for partaking in this function proceeded them, and I got to see a Chad-less (not suprised) N*E*R*D finish up where they left off from GITDT. The did about a 10 song compilation, and some of the highlights for me were personal favorite tracks like Bobby James, (!) Provider, Maybe, You Know What, Run to the Sun, and others joints that they went plain stupid on. I'm forever savoring their performance. Common, being the headliner, of course followed and tore up the spot. He killed it on Sex n Sugar, I used to love h.e.r., the Light, Go, UMC, and the new aid to all your hip hop sorrows-Gladiator. He even did his own rendition of other artist's hits with the likes of MIAMI State of Mind, They Reminisce over You, Get 'em High, to name a few. Dude even spit like an 80 bar freestyle that had the crowd in a trance. I couldn't have dreamt the event better myself.
One Love... N*E*R*D... Peace
*Before I forget, I would like to give a special welcome back to my man Gonzo, who now returns wearing the 45 like Michael with his much-needed return to the blogging game.*
With Kanye obliterating the US with the GITDT, his buddy Common has had to rely on others to help to with his forthcoming album, Invincible Summer. This feel-good album, as Common depicts it, looks to go a little outside of this Chicagoan's boundaries(think Electric Circus). Santogold, Cee-lo, and possibly the most intriguing artists to appear thus far, Chester French, are set to appear. Definitely look for this CD to have a newer, more fresh sound to it. I still hope 'Ye gets in on at least some of the magic, though. For more on this, click here
Its a new year which means its time to get introduced to some new faces and bring back some old ones. This year has no shortage of sick albums, especially this month. So, without further ado, i present to you the best albums to look forward to in 2008.
Don't Sleep on: The Bake Sale by The Cool Kids- If you havent heard the Totally Flossed OutEP, you dont know what your missing. Forget the best new duo in hip-hop, The Cool Kids are the best duo in music, period. The album is rumored to drop late this month, but I havent heard anything official, so im not making any promises. You can get the EPhere. And here is the video for Black Mags:
I'll be Lightning by Liam Finn- This New Zealand folk rocker is, well, a little different. He forms a one man band and his album has gotten noticed internationally. His album drops stateside this month. Its like ish for the 60's.
Santogold- I dont know the official title of Santogold's debut album, but if you like her good friend, M.I.A., you will be satisfied when it drops this spring. Her sound is very similar to her friend and she has performed with Spank Rock and Mark Ronson asked her to help write a song on Lily Allen's previous work. For a little sample, here is L.E.S. Artistes.
Oracle Spectacular by MGMT- This electronic rock group (pronounced Management) is great if you're into electronica. It took me a long time to get into it but I can honestly say I like it. Its a change of pace and the album comes out this month. Its already available on iTunes so if you instantly fall in love with it, which I doubt you will, you can get it there. Here they are live:
Made of Bricks by Kate Nash- Despite her efforts to distinguish herself, Nash is really another version of Lily Allen. Im not saying thats a bad thing because Allen's Alright, Still was one of my favorite albums of 2006. Made of Bricks is set to be released later this month.
Love the Future by Chester French- These dudes are crazy. They recently graduated from Harvard and were signed by Pharrell's Star Trak label. They sound unlike anything you've heard in hip-hop. Actually, I would not classify them as hip-hop despite their record label. Check out their single, She Loves Everybody here. It was played on the ending credits of Entourage so you know its hot.
